Our mealworm and superworm bedding is packaged into resealable zip lock style bags. Our bedding is mixed, weighed, and packaged by hand. Then we naturally heat treat our bedding to kill off any grain mites, moths, etc. This process takes a few days. We place the packaged bedding into a black storage tote, close the lid, and place it in direct sunlight. It stays in this extremely hot environment for several days.
We used to not heat treat our bedding until one day we found small grain moths in the bedding. We called the manufacturer and were told that its normal to find some in the bags. We wouldn't want you to infest your house with any type of pests so we take the extra time to make sure the bedding has been treated just in case the bag had any sort of grain pest in it.
