The Hotwheels guppy was designed by the owner of Pritchett's Small Pets. It was a mutation found in our Red Moscow line and instead of culling the few odd fish we grew them out. 2 females and 2 males started the Hotwheels line. We had a small batch of fry to work with after losing both females. We grew them up and selected the males with the best looking designer tails and kept all of the females but 2 because they had spine issues. So now we are at 3 males, 2 being the originals, and 2 females. They are where the project became a goal. A new batch of fry are growing out on this 2nd day of August 2020 and we are also raising out some red Moscow fry that we will use a few females to freshen up this line and add some diversity.
The Hotwheels guppy male is grey bodied & should have a small patch of links appearing on the body before the tail from it's apparent snakeskin genes. The tail should be a bright reddish orange with a mosaic color or orange, yellow, black, and/or red. The delta tail has jagged edges and looks like flames. Some males have a sphere tail and they look beautiful swimming along with their delta tail brothers. All males display a pink coloration over the top side half of their body behind their eyes. Their dorsal fins are long and flowing overlapping the tail. The males dorsal fin should match the tail color and pattern. Some males develop purple pigment near the end of the body before the tail. Females are grey bodied and should show a hint of red color and black markings throughout the tail and dorsal. Lots of cover should be given to fry as the parents do seem to eat them readily.
